TINTA ROSA
The Project
Tinta Rosa is the last wine Project in SPECIAL WINES SPAIN (the Spanish Wine Export Company). It has been developed together with Rosa Zarza, the winemaker who has known how to bring the most exquisite selection of this ancestral grape variety and its centuries-old vineyards to the maximum expression.
It is the combination of “tinta de Toro”grape, one of the most acclaimed apellations in the world, the D.O. Toro and Rosa Zarza.
It is about 2 wines made 100% with Tinta de Toro and different aging. In order to produce those wines we have focus on Rosa’s family vineyards, with an average age of 30 years old, with grapes from different plots and our personal selection.
The aim of this project is to show the world our most personal way of making wines, where we feel really comfortable, with all the knowledge acquired during these years and with the grape that saw her to start as winemaker: Tinta de Toro.
A serious, powerful, noble and elegant wine. Made following sustainable methods with the environment, in harmony with nature and with the terroir, where the aim is to bring “tinta de Toro” to the highest level. It is the reflection of simplicity, an authentic wine that evokes all the floral aromas of Toro, it is a Rose in a bottle.

She has been working in the DO TORO since 1998 and her first Toro wine was made in 2001.
She controls the whole process: she is in charge of the vineyards and also the winemaking.
Her policy is to make wines respecting the autochthonous characteristics of each variety and with the less intrusive techniques in the vineyard and also during the winemaking.
D.O TORO
We are in Spain. The name of our region is Castilla y León, is divided in 9 provinces. The DO Toro is between 2 provinces, Zamora and Valladolid, although the biggest vineyard and most of the wineries are in Zamora.
Romans used to make Wines in Toro. These wines filled royal cellars and ships that were to sail to the lands of the New World. During the 19th century, large quantities were exported to France to fill the gap that had been left by the phyloxera plague. In the 70s of the 20th century, the first steps were taken to create what was to later become the Toro Designation of Origin, which culminated in 1987.
Varieties used: TINTA DE TORO, Garnacha, Verdejo and Malvasia.
What makes Toro different?
Its indigenous grape TINTA DE TORO: Some people say that it is the same than Tempranillo, others that it is a clone of Tempranillo but the truth is that this variety is classified as an indigenous variety.
Its Sandy soils with river stones that make the area was not damaged by phyloxera.
Its climatology: continental weather with Atlantic influences.
Altitude between 620 to 750 meters.
